Seminars and Trainings

BBISB provides seminars that are designed to assist key stakeholders in the community with improving outcomes in the lives of Black women with histories of incarceration. We also offer staff training and development with the same goal in mind.

Participant Testimonials

“This was one of the most interesting, engaging, and immediately applicable trainings I’ve ever attended. Dr. Jones is incredibly skilled at 1) identifying the theoretical frameworks that center the experiences of Black women, 2) critiques existing ones (ie, gender responsivity) that exclude them, and 3) arguing so convincingly (ie, it is a matter of life and death) for a way of thinking, feeling, and practicing that serves as a crucial correction/alternative to dominant paradigms that reenact instead of transform. Throughout doing so, Dr. Jones brings the voices of her participants, her own personal experience, her professional expertise, and an incredible capacity to think on multiple levels simultaneously and somehow – I don’t know how she does this –communicate really complicated ideas with big implications in ways that are immediately clear. As a result, she is not just talented/smart/educated/skilled, but also inspiring. Thank You!”

- Dr. Kita, Professor at UC Berkeley

“I wish this training were 10 hours longer. I learned so much in the time we spent together and look forward to opportunities to use the Araminta Approach in our work as well as disseminate this opportunity to colleagues. Dr. Marilyn Jones is a powerful presenter and developed a transformative, critically necessary, and actionable framework with the Araminta Approach.”
